 Team Ortho’s Zachary Schendel Races to the Olympics at NYC Marathon
When was the last time you ran a 2:20 Marathon? Meet Zachary Schendel shown here with Virginia Brophy Achman, executive director of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon (MTCM) at a press conference held at the Minnesota State Capitol on Sept 19th.
Zach will be racing in the Olympic Trials Marathon in New York City on Nov. 3. The start will be broadcast live on the TODAY show so tune in at 7:25 EST. Watch Zach and 160 other hopefuls race 26.2 miles in Central Park or join us cheering Zach in Central Park. Tom Varecka, MD, will be hosting a pasta party on Saturday night for Team Ortho racers running in the NYC marathon the next day on, Sunday, Nov. 4th.
Zach is a great example of a man dedicated to an active lifestyle. Zach holds down three jobs , has his first child on the way, and still finds time to coach kids and train himself for the Olympics. He will be racing the Medtronic TC 10 Mile on October 7. Any orthopaedic problems? Zach suffer a fractured T6 vertibrae in a motorcycle accident recently, but adds “The doctor says it will be healed by Nov. 3rd”. Good Luck Zach, we will be watching and cheering!
The Olympic Trials Marathon will serve as the selection race for the U.S. men’s marathon team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The top three finishers in New York on November 3 will make the team, provided they meet international time standards. The race will have 160 runners offering very tough competition for Zach. Every Body is welcome to join other Team Ortho members cheering Zach on in Central Park.
